Popovers, or keyboard shortcuts, can really speed up the composing process in Dorico. Here are four basic popovers to get started.

Add a Time Signature

To add a time signature, press Shift+M on your keyboard. Then, type in the desired time signature, such as C, 3/4, or 6/8, and hit Enter. This popover helps you set the structure of your composition quickly.

Add Bars

Need more bars? Press Shift+B and input the number of bars you want to add. It’s a swift way to adjust the length of your composition, whether you’re starting your piece or need to create additional bars at the end.

Add Key

To add a key, hit Shift+K and enter the key you want, using lowercase for minor and uppercase for major keys. For non-traditional or atonal pieces, you can also type “open” or “atonal” to signify the absence of a key signature.

Add Tempo

Want to add a tempo? Press Shift+T and enter the desired tempo manually or select from the dropdown menu. A smooth way to adjust the pacing of your composition as needed.
